PROCRASTINATION : An EPIDEMIC

Image
Why has he written it 'An epidemic'? Isn't it, folks?  Procrastination, for those hearing it for the first time, is the act of delaying or putting off tasks until the last minute, or past their deadline. Why have I designated it an epidemic?  Procrastination is not a phenomenon that is seen exclusively in this era. This is evident and quite popular for a long time. In India itself, Sant Kabir had famously said,  काल करे सो आज कर, आज करे सो अब। पल में परलय होएगी, बहुरि करेगा कब। Egyptian hieroglyphs have been discovered, wherein recorded conversations between two people have been translated. "Friend, stop putting off work and allow us to go home in good time." The same idea has been reiterated by many poets and motivational speakers in history. But the sad reality is that we humans have gotten worse in the last five decades. There has been a 300-400% rise in chronic procrastination. Approximately 50% of people procrastinate in the world. But why do humans procras...

Overthinking

Image
नमस्ते दोस्तों!  Sorry. I know I am late, but these exams have kept me busy. I, too, wish to upload blogs regularly on pertinent topics. Anyways, since we're on the same page now, time shouldn't be wasted on sobbing. Let's start, shall we? Overthinking, if simply put down in words, is an unhealthy habit that typically causes more stress by focusing on negative thoughts, dwelling on the past, and worrying about the future. You might do it now and then. What you did do in the past, what happened with you, keeps on haunting your brain, and thus it becomes a spree. You keep on wondering what ' could've been ' or what ' can be '. So on a plethora of unnecessary things. Don't worry, even though I am writing this blog and giving you suggestions, I still overthink. See, this is inevitable. But, as I mentioned in my earlier blog, you don't have to test your willpower, you just have to change your environment to remove all the cues.  Dissociate possib...

Productivity

Image
Hello Fellas, Howzit going'? I hope you're all in your best spirits. Today, due to commitments, I won't be able to talk much, but are going to talk and discuss the term 'PRODUCTIVITY.' Don't worry. Each of us may have a different definition of this word. Some may embrace it in one way, some in the other. Going with the most widely accepted definition, ' productivity is the amount of work you do in a fixed amount of time. ' ' Disclaimer: All instances depicted here are concerning a day.' Let's discern and set a dichotomy between two day types based on productivity. When you do almost 20 tasks a day, you call it a productive day, but when you while away the same 24 hours doing nothing but counting your wall tiles, you call it a ' non-productive day '.  Now I would like to reinforce the fact that often people who are hedonists tend to spend days like time doesn't matter to them. If you are like them, you've come across the rig...

Dopamine: A boon or curse?

Image
How is it going, everyone? Welcome back to my blog. Today, we'll discuss a hormone that confuses your mind and indirectly harms your body, and yet you are happy in the end. It's DOPAMINE! Let us first understand what dopamine is It is a neurotransmitter produced in our brain. For a long time, scientists believed that dopamine was a one-time pleasure hormone, which meant that the hormone is responsible for happiness. But latest studies have proven it baseless. Endorphins, another hormone, also a stress buster hormone, are responsible for happiness and other stuff. So, what is dopamine's role then? It is related to the motivation  and reward  system of our brain. Dopamine gets produced when our brain predicts some activities which give us happiness, and in this anticipation itself, our dopamine levels rise.  For example, your friend is about to throw a party at your dream restaurant, and he tells you just one day before it. You haven't made it to the party, but the an...

What Changes Can you do on your phone

Changing color to greyscale The most effective thing that had made me stick less to my phone was turning on the greyscale.  Studies reflect that human evolution has witnessed more susceptibility to bright colors. Breaking down the sentence, it indicates eyes love to see more bright colors than dull colors.    I have personally experienced that when I use greyscale, I don't incline toward my phone every single time. It makes it look unattractive and thus generally makes me lose interest.  Most app developing agencies nowadays make the app logo look more colorful and attractive to lure people to the app. Beware of this! We shouldn't fall into this pit. To change to greyscale, watch: https://youtu.be/FtqhKmotIxI   Long Password Keeping up long passwords is another exasperating task, but this is worth it. It plays up a psychological effect on your mind. You'll feel too lazy to use the phone after you keep typing such a long password. Eventually, this will boost your...

Low attention span?

Image
Big-big social-media companies, let it be YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, or Roposo, have introduced a new problem. The problem is often less talked about or overlooked.   The problem is Low Attention Span. Internet and social media, in general, are day by day reducing our attention span. For example, earlier, people used to read books, which took them a few days , then came movies, which took a few hours , and then came YouTube, which took a few minutes . As you can see, the tendency to read or watch content is reducing exponentially, thus reducing the attention span. Short-video sharing platforms make attention spans to the 'minutest' level possible. It won't be surprising if we compare this to a gambling machine. They only take a few seconds . You must've noticed that whenever we scroll down through the reels section, we tend to scroll it down and down in the search for better content with minimal effort. Every 15 seconds, we want something new and refreshing. According ...
